Position: High School Head Coach - Football
Reports To: Athletic Director
Education Requirements:
- BA/BS in Education preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- Previous High School Head Coaching experience desired.
Physical Requirements:
- Hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity.
- Ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, sit, etc.
- Capability to travel between locations.
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of football fundamentals.
- Certification in Sports First Aid or Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries (renew every two years).
- Completion of “Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know” (renew annually).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
A. Program Leadership
- Coaches the varsity team, adhering to the 14 legal duties of coaches.
- Supervises assistant coaches (grades 9-12).
- Collaborates with assistant coaches on athlete participation and playing time.
- Promotes the athletic program within schools and the community.
- Guides middle school programs feeding into the high school.
- Implements and enforces district athletic department policies.
B. Staff Management
- Assists in selecting and evaluating assistant coaches.
C. Administrative Collaboration
- Works with the Athletic Director and Principal on:
- Game schedules and contest officials.
- Game trips and eligibility lists.
- Budgets, equipment, supply requisitions, and potential fundraising.
- Facility planning and booster club collaboration.
D. Operations & Supervision
- Coordinates practice schedules with the Athletic Director.
- Supervises facilities during practices and games.
- Travels and supervises students during away games.
E. Athlete & Equipment Care
- Ensures athlete well-being and care for injuries.
- Maintains and inventories equipment annually.
F. Meetings & Compliance
- Attends conferences, athletic department meetings, and clinics.
- Adheres to WIAA and conference policies.
G. Miscellaneous Duties
- Prepares award lists, collects fees, and coordinates team absences for events.
- Fosters a professional relationship with staff and coaches.
Contract Details:
- Extra duty/extra pay position for the duration of the sports season.
- Duties may vary throughout the season as needed.
