The Saint Croix Falls School District is implementing a new safety initiative called SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT (SUSO). This confidential tipline, operated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, allows students, parents, and community members to report concerns about school safety such as bullying, drug use, suicidal thoughts, and threats of violence. The goal of SUSO is to empower individuals to share information without fear of retaliation, promoting early intervention and a safer school environment.
SUSO is available 24/7 through various channels including a mobile app, website, phone call, and text message. Reports are assessed by SUSO Resource Center staff who then contact school officials and, if necessary, law enforcement. The district will be educating students on how to use SUSO appropriately, with age-appropriate instruction for elementary students emphasizing the importance of reporting concerns to trusted adults.
